Anthrax Scare and Defamation

Remember the anthrax scare in the months following the 9/11 attacks? Remember Mr. Z? If you don't, this opinion will refresh your recollection.

Mr. Z was named in some New York Times articles and did not appreciate being called a terrorist. He sued, had his case dismissed, but the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals reversed and remanded the case for trial.

He will get his day in court. I wonder if the NYT will be forced to reveal its source(s) for the stories?

Question: I have been the target of a smear campaign for nearly three years -- it's as nasty as the anthrax case. The latest, and ugliest, lies occurred in January, May, and August 2005. All of these are related and by the same person.. The original smear was published on the Internet, then a magazine, and now is back on the Internet.I have monetary losses; the smear threw dirt on the memorial for my late husband; my sons have been shamed -- and I am having difficulty finding a libel lawyer to take my case. What do I do next.

Rochelle - many lawyers do not handle libel cases.

I suggest you go to this website - www.nbtanet.org - and look for a board certified lawyer to help you. I suggest you do so quickly - every state has a deadline for filing this type of case. For instance, in Tennesse libel cases must be filed in one year and slander cases must be filed in six months.
