Day on Torts
Tennessee Justice Programs has released it Fall 2020 on-demand video seminar CLE programs.
Former Tennessee Supreme Court Justice Penny White, former Court of Criminal Appeals Judge Joe Riley, and I started Justice Programs almost 20 years ago. The seminar program is designed for civil trial practitioners who are interested in enhancing their legal knowledge as they earn CLE credit.
Historically, our seminar was presented in three live programs in Knoxville, Nashville and Memphis. This year, COVID-19 has caused us to abandon the normal and film 15 hours of on-demand legal education. The Tennessee Supreme Court now permits unlimited on-demand programs to fulfill all CLE obligations.
You can register for one hour, fifteen hours, or several different bundles of hours by visiting our website. You do not have to watch a program all in one setting – you can return to it and watch it over several days.
I speak about torts and comparative fault (2 hours general credit) and the law of jury selection (1 hour general credit). I also introduce a new topic I call the “How Do I” series. The How Do I segments – 10 in total that are covered in 2 1-hour programs (2 hours general credit) – provide information about a variety of civil procedure topics. For example, “How Do I Get More time to Respond to a Motion for Summary Judgment” provides viewers with the not only the law applicable to the issue but also practical tips on how to create a proper record to get more time to do discovery to fully respond to a Rule 56 motion. Perhaps more importantly, it gives recommendations on how to avoid being in the position to need to file a motion for additional time to do discovery when faced with a motion for summary judgment.

WARNING: If you watch this bundle at your desk, make sure all pointed objects within a three-foot radius are been removed. Penny, Joe and I will miss being on the road this December and seeing all of our friends from across the state, a good number of whom return year after year to our program.
